We created this traditional garden
for a busy professional couple in leafy Chiswick W4, West London. It reflects their eco friendly lifestyle by incorporating green space and natural materials, whilst providing
an area to house a large trampoline and various other children's play equipment.

 

The garden was designed and installed in conjunction with the internal development of the property, to create a seamless link between the interior and exterior space; with an impressive piece of glass providing
a connection between the two areas. 

 

An existing mature pear tree forms the centrepiece of the garden and is complimented with hornbeam hedges (Carpinus betulus) to screen the play area which can be accessed from the lawn or via a living willow tunnel thats just the right height for the owners children to run through 

 

The garden is accessed through large glass sliding doors from the newly built extension, leading on to a reclaimed York stone patio with steps down to the lawn. A raised planting bed was constructed from oak sleepers on one side of the patio and filled with herbs within easy reach of the kitchen.

The planting is informal, with a mix of perennial and evergreen plants that differ in height and shape to soften the structural surfaces in the garden and offer a diverse range of colour and scents throughout the year.
